Name : Fati`s Strawberries

Fati Machalikashvili is a refugee woman from Chechnya. The mother of five children has been living in Georgia for more than twenty years. Fati is a strong woman, cares for the well-being of her family and never loses hope for a better future. Now lives in the village of Tsinubani in Akhmeta Municipality with her husband and five children.

Coming to Georgia and living here was not so easy, however with her own efforts, Fati was able to find her place and overcome most of her problems. Because, Fati and her husband were unemployed, Fati decided to plant strawberries in her little yard and began to sell them.  As she saw some profits, Fati decided to keep doing this activity. For expanding the production Fati participated in a Women’s Economic Empowerment project supported by UN Women. With the help of the project, she planted a new variety of strawberry, which has its special taste and exterior and is quite popular though the local market. Gradually, Fati overcame the barriers and her life is now more stable. In future, she plans to produce raspberries and thornless blackberries, while her husband wants to make a greenhouse.
